From the Snow Queen to villainess Cruella de Vil, East Berkshire College was awash with larger than life characters as part of its annual hairdressing catwalk show at Langley College this week.

The Queen of Hearts, Lady Gaga and Aphrodite were the inspiration for just some of the wonderful and wacky student creations making an appearance this year. The show, which is a highlight of the academic year for hairdressing students, took place in the College's stunning new hair and beauty salons. Over 240 students from levels one to three took part in the show, with prizes awarded in each category.

Natalie Sweeney, Manager of the Hair & Beauty Academy at East Berkshire College, explains: "Our annual catwalk show is an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their creativity as well as their technical skills. From cutting to hair-up designs, the standard of work across all areas and year groups was outstanding. The show gets better and better every year."

Nicola Orlando, who is studying for a hairdressing level three course, took first prize in the Total Look category with her show stopping design inspired by Black Swan, while Jane Skuton came a close second with her Snow Queen creation. In this Level 3 competition, students had just three hours to complete a stunning hair-up design, make-up and outfit to create an overall look around the theme of spectacular personalities.

In the Level 2 cut and blow dry competition, Clare Hickey and Emily Godleman received top honours for their respective cutting skills. Meanwhile, Danielle Crutch was also recognised in the Level 1 creative plaiting and twisting competition for her elegant design.

The stunning new salons at Langley College incorporate professional cutting stations, the latest industry-standard equipment and a new public reception area. As well as being a teaching facility for those studying hair and beauty courses, the salons are open to the public and act as a working business to allow students to train on real customers for an enhanced learning experience.

A range of treatments are on offer to the public (males and females) including hairdressing, massage, make-up, manicures and pedicures. Treatments are priced from £2.00 and are carried out by students under staff supervision. For those interested in booking an appointment at the salon, please call 01753 793246.
