Course Overview

Graphic design is an expansive and important part of modern culture. Branding, magazines, websites, fashion, film and signage are all underpinned by graphic communication.

This course will introduce you to a variety of different graphic design experiences working with both traditional and new technologies. You will have the opportunity to work practically and critically the result of which, will be a skilled and intellectual understanding of graphic communication.

Course information

The course is broken down into several different areas of graphic communication. You will have the opportunity to investigate and create illustration, advertising, packaging design, design for print, computer graphics, multimedia, animation, film and TV design and web design. Some of the skills and techniques that you will cover include, meaning, function, style, scale, colour and content. Moreover, you will learn employment-based skills such as responding to a brief.

In class, face to face.

60% of the two year linear Graphics Communication A Level is assessed through a personal investigation. This is the only major piece of coursework you will undertake over the two years and it is set and marked by the College. 40% of the course is marked through an exam. This is a 15 hour exam, spread over three days. The exam is preceded by a research and preparation period.
