Domestic Ventilation Systems

Ventilation (MVHR)

MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery) courses are an excellent way to build in-demand skills for energy-efficient construction and retrofit projects. As the construction industry continues to prioritise sustainability and low-carbon solutions, the need for properly trained ventilation specialists is rapidly increasing. These courses provide a strong foundation in how modern ventilation systems work, helping learners understand how to create healthier, more energy-efficient indoor environments.

Studying at the Green Skills Academy at Windsor Forest Colleges Group gives learners access to industry-standard equipment, expert tutors, and hands-on training that reflects real-world applications. This practical approach ensures that students not only understand the theory behind MVHR systems but can also confidently install, commission, and maintain them in domestic and commercial settings. The learning environment is designed to mirror current industry practices, giving you a competitive edge when entering the workforce.

Throughout the course, you will develop essential skills such as airflow calculation, system design, fault finding, and performance testing. You will also gain a deeper understanding of building regulations, health and safety requirements, and best practices for improving indoor air quality and energy efficiency. These competencies are highly valued by employers across the construction and building services sectors.

By completing an MVHR course, you significantly enhance your career prospects within the growing sustainable building sector.

Topics and skills taught:

Domestic Ventilation Systems

  • Airflow requirements and calculations – learning how to size and measure ventilation correctly
  • Installation, testing and commissioning – hands-on skills to install and set up systems properly
  • Health and safety in ventilation systems – safe working practices and regulations
  • Understanding ventilation systems and strategies – different system types and how they work

Commercial MVHR Installation, Service and Maintenance

  • Servicing and maintenance of MVHR/HVAC systems – keeping systems operating efficiently

Commercial MVHR Installation, Service and Maintenance (5 days)

This 5-day course is intended to provide new knowledge to upskill existing engineers from other disciplines who are engaging in the activities of the ventilation systems in a non-residential /commercial sector.
This course is for those operatives currently employed in the building services industry, providing them with the necessary training to develop their existing skills. Learners will be required to demonstrate the necessary abilities, skills, and knowledge to be able to service, maintain, and perform fault diagnosis and fault rectification of ventilation and HVAC systems.

BPEC accredited Level 2 Domestic Ventilation Systems

The objectives of this 3 day training course are to enable delegates to meet the requirements of the Approved Document to Part F of the Building Regulations in England & Wales and the Part F Compliance Guide to:

– Install any of the common types of Domestic Ventilation Systems in the UK in a safe and workmanlike manner
– Inspect and test any of the common types of Domestic Ventilation Systems in the UK
– Commission and provide information for any of the common types of Domestic Ventilation Systems in the UK

Safe Isolation with a lock
Safe Isolation of Low Voltage Electrical Systems Single and Three Phase

This 1 day course is designed for anyone who needs to perform safe electrical isolation in their work. It covers key sections of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 (Regulations 3, 12, 13, 14, and 16) to ensure participants can meet the legal requirements and safely prevent injury and danger.

This is a one-day course with both a practical and a theory assessment. While a certificate of completion proves your understanding of the safe isolation process, it does not lead to a formal qualification. The certificate is valid for five years.

Health and Safety in the Workplace (4065) (C&G, Level 2) (2 Days)

The purpose and aim of this 2 day unit is to provide the learner with the skills and knowledge required in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment.
Learning Outcome:
1. Know the principles of risk assessment for maintaining and improving health and safety at work
2. Know the importance of safe manual handling in the workplace
3. Know the importance of working safely at height in the workplace
4. Know risks to health within a construction environment
5. Know the importance of working around plant and equipment safely
