College charity coffee morning is a recipe for success

IMG 2016

There were cakes galore at East Berkshire College recently, when over 15 students on the Evolve course (formerly Personal Options) took part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. The students raised £135 for the charity by selling a variety of cakes and hot drinks to fellow students and staff at Windsor College in St Leonards Road.

Many of the deliciously indulgent cakes were baked and decorated by the students themselves and others, such as a heavenly hummingbird cake and a scrumptious carrot cake, were kindly donated by the Handmade Cake Company.

Lecturer Liz Wheeler explains: “Our coffee morning was a great success. All the students that took part are currently on the Evolve programme at Windsor College, which is a course for people on the autistic spectrum. As well as raising money for a worthy cause, the event also helped the students to develop their literacy, numeracy and communication skills.”

East Berkshire College has an excellent reputation for its courses for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, and its Windsor College is a specialist area for learners on the autistic spectrum.
