Students think pink to raise more than a pretty penny

East Berkshire College in Windsor was in the pink last week as students used their entrepreneurial skills to raise over £2,000 for Breast Cancer Care with some hair-raising antics.

Students at the Windsor College in St Leonards Road organised a range of events including a cake sale, a "wear it pink" day, apple bobbing and male leg waxing to raise much needed funds and awareness for the cancer charity. However, A Level student Charly Matthews went a step further and bravely volunteered to have her long hair shaved off for the cause!

Charly (17, from Windsor), whose own mum lost her life to breast cancer earlier this year, said: "Lots of people have been affected by cancer one way or another, so I think it's important to raise awareness as well as money. Our event was a fun way to do just that and I'm delighted so many people have supported our efforts.

"Originally, I was just going to have my hair cropped short if I raised enough money. But then I decided if donations to my just giving site reached over £1,000 I would shave my head completely."

Family friend and hairdresser, Debra Hammond, had the responsibility of shaving Charly's head as College students and staff cheered her on. Debra said: "What Charly has achieved is amazing and a real honour to her mum's memory. She is a real inspiration to us all!"

For those interested in making a donation to help raise funds for Breast Cancer Care, Charly has a Just Giving page for fundraising at
