Applicants must have a level 2 qualification in Counselling as well as a good standard of spoken and written English (GCSE/level 3).
It is highly recommended that any psychological issues are managed before embarking on such a course. It must also be noted that the course is not the venue to resolve these issues. An interview will also be required as well as a skills practice assessment.
Course information
Learners will complete this qualification with a comprehensive and full understanding of how to identify, practise and develop a range of counselling skills, and further develop their understanding of the main theoretical approaches to counselling. Learners will also gain a deeper understanding of self.
36 Weeks
Classbased
There will be group sessions held each week for 36 weeks, split over 3 College terms. The sessions will include a range of activities including: presentation and discussion of theory; self-awareness & development; acquisition and practice of listening and counselling skills.
A weekly journal will need to be written and submitted to your tutor to record progress on the course. There will also be assignments and case studies. The assignments and work generated in the group sessions will make up the portfolio of evidence on which you be assessed. There will also be an assessed practical counselling session.
