A good standard of spoken and written English (GCSE/level 2) is the only formal entry requirement for this course. You will need to supply evidence of this. However it is recommended, but not essential, to have completed an Introduction to Counselling. It is highly recommended that any psychological issues are managed before embarking on such a course. It must also be noted that the course is not the venue to resolve these issues.
Good IT knowledge is required to produce a portfolio, which you will submit for assessment.

The course is made up of 4 mandatory units
1. Using Counselling Skills
2. Introduction to Counselling Skills Theories
3. Diversity and Ethics in the Use of Counselling Skills
4. Counselling Skills and Personal Development
33 Weeks
Classbased
There will be group sessions held each week for 33 weeks, split over 3 College terms. The sessions will include a range of activities including: presentation and discussion of theory; self-awareness & development; acquisition of listening and counselling.
Throughout the year you will be required to complete a range of written assignments outside of the classroom. Together these assignments and work generated in the group sessions will make up the portfolio of evidence on which you will be assessed. You will also complete a weekly journal which must be submitted to your tutor each week for marking. This will also from part of the portfolio.
