No previous knowledge of counselling is required—only an interest in people, a genuine sense of care for others, and a willingness to learn about yourself as well as those around you. It is strongly recommended that any existing psychological difficulties are appropriately managed before starting the course, as the course itself is not intended to provide therapy or resolve personal issues. Participants will also need good IT skills in order to produce and submit a portfolio for assessment
Course information
The course will give an overview of counselling and life coaching and provide experiences, which give an insight into what it is like to be part of each process.
2 hours per week, over 8 weeks
Classbased
The course will include a range of activities, including presentation and discussion of theory, self- awareness and development, acquisition of basic listening and counselling skills. To maximise the benefit of the course you will be encouraged to keep a reflective journal.
