Course Overview

This course is the foundation for those who need to communicate with deaf people, either professionally or personally, but who have no signing skills. It will teach you the importance of hand shapes, and visual expressions and correct body language, giving you an insight into the way this language is structured.

This course is designed to introduce you to the basic principles of British Sign Language (BSL), and to present methods of communicating with people who are profoundly deaf or who are sign language users. The course includes lots of group and pair work. It is recommended that you practise your skills between the lessons. This is an Entry 3 Level course.

Course information

20 hours, one evening a week for 8 weeks.

There is one internal one to one assessment, there are no external assessments.
