What's covered?

This course is designed for students who are already in full-time employment within the construction industry and who are seeking to further their career and gain an industry recognised qualification. It is delivered in partnership with employers to mix academic study and workplace learning and it equips students with the relevant knowledge, understanding and skills to improve their performance and productivity both in technical and managerial work. It leads to one of the key qualifications in construction management. Units covered include Law & Contract, Applied Mathematics, Science & Materials and the Environmental Impact of Construction.

What do you need?

The HND is specifically designed to meet the needs of candidates who have gained a Level 3 qualification or those with appropriate prior experience of work in the sector. GCSE English (Grade C) and GCSE Mathematics (Grade C) or equivalent qualifications are required. Applicants over 21 without the above qualifications are also encouraged to apply.

All applicants will be required to attend an interview with a member of the course team and to complete an assessment.

How you are assessed

Each unit is assessed using a range of methods including presentations, assignments and practical tasks.

How Long?

The course is part-time over two years, one day/evening per week. In the first year you will study on a Wednesday, working from 9.00 am until 8.30 pm

What course next?

Students who successfully complete their qualification may progress to study for the award of a vocational honours degree leading towards full membership of professional institutions.

What could this lead to?

The course will enable you to develop a wide range of employability skills through the emphasis on a vocational approach to teaching and a focus on a range of technical and managerial knowledge and skills.
