College takes careers advice to another dimension

East Berkshire College helped shoppers safely navigate their way across a treacherous crocodile infested cavern that appeared in Uxbridge High Street last week (Wednesday 18th July 2012).

The event was part of a special advice and guidance road show by the College and luckily the frightening scene was actually some snappy three-dimensional street artwork. Shoppers were able to interact with the giant painting, having their photos taken while they negotiated their way safely across the red stepping stones and avoided the hungry crocodiles lurking below.

Advisers from the College were on hand to provide visitors with advice on accessing funding as well as an extensive range of part-time, full-time and workplace training courses.

Ken Evans (from West Drayton), who was shopping with his baby daughter Cerys, was one shopper to join in the fun.

"The street art really injected some fun into the town centre," said Ken. "It was a clever way to promote the College's courses and services. You are never too old to learn something new. I'm thinking of taking a digital photography course, so it was an ideal opportunity to gets some advice and pick up a prospectus."

The College offers free and impartial advice and guidance on courses, careers and training to adults as well as students through the National Careers Service. The service, which includes workshops on CV writing and job search activities, can be accessed at the College's Langley and Windsor campuses as well as various community locations.

Many people may also be eligible for free course fees or help with the cost of study. As well as government funding schemes, East Berkshire College has its own financial support schemes and flexible instalment plans available on some courses to help with the cost of studying.
