A national survey on Higher Education providers has rated East Berkshire College as one of the top 25 colleges and universities in the UK for student satisfaction, ranking above both Oxford University (91%) and Cambridge University (90%).

The results from the National Student Survey (NSS) 2015 revealed that 94% of East Berkshire College's higher education students were satisfied with their courses at the College, which far exceeds the national average of 86% for all UK institutions.

The survey also highlighted the quality of teaching at the College, with an impressive 98% of students surveyed stating that staff were enthusiastic, good at explaining and made the subject matter interesting.

The NSS is a high-profile census of nearly half a million students across the UK, which has been conducted annually since 2005. The survey gathers opinions from students about their experience of their courses, asking them to provide honest feedback on what it has been like to study on their course. It is an influential source of public information about higher education and gives students a powerful collective voice to help shape the future of their college or university.

In response to the growing demand for higher level skills, East Berkshire College has continued to expand its range of Higher Education courses and celebrated an impressive 94% pass rate last year. The College now offers a wide range of part-time and full-time Higher Education courses, which include HNCs, HNDs, Higher Apprenticeships and Foundation Degrees in various subjects from hospitality to computing.

Kate Webb, Principal of East Berkshire College, which has campuses in Langley and Windsor, said: "With the cost of university education on the rise and more competition than ever before for top jobs, studying for a university-level qualification at college is a more convenient and affordable alternative.

"As a college, we are very much focused on helping students achieve their ambitions and develop employability skills, so expanding our Higher Education provision has been key. We have established strong links with employers and invested heavily in our facilities to provide a centre of excellence for higher level skills in the area. The NSS survey is a wonderful acknowledgement of our achievements."

Tom Absalom, who studied an HND in Construction at the College alongside working full-time, commented: "For me the best thing about college is the student-teacher relationship. It is a really supportive environment. You can email the lecturers anytime if you have any problems or questions. Plus, the cost of studying at college is considerably lower than university."

The survey is a further endorsement to the quality of the College's Higher Education provision, which has also recently received the QAA quality mark. Following a review in May 2015, the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) judged that East Berkshire College's academic standards and the quality of its student learning opportunities all meet UK expectations. In particular, the review found that students received a high level of support from staff and had access to a wide range of resources and activities to enhance their employability skills.
