Course Overview

The University Arts London Extended Diploma in Performing & Production Arts is a two year course that is the equivalent to 3 A Levels and is designed to provide students with a realistic and demanding training programme in all areas of performance.

This course gives you the skills and all-round experience to be an adaptable and multi-skilled performer and theatre maker.

Requires four GCSEs at grade 4 or above or a Level 2 BTEC/UAL Diploma in performing arts at merit.

Course information

Drama classes aim to cover a wide range of theatrical styles and periods covering everything from Greek Theatre and Shakespeare to plays that are being written and performed now.

Technique classes will develop your skills as performers through movement work (dance, physical theatre and stage combat) and vocal work (Voice and the Actor, Musical Theatre); and you will be given regular opportunities to demonstrate these skills in public performances at a The Old Court Art Space in Windsor.

There is also the opportunity to have a taiored pathway in order to specialise in production arts and learn about set, lighting and sound design and stage management. You will learn about the Performing Arts Business, how to make a professional CV, receive audition tips and techniques and meet professional performers, directors and technicians, learn how to market yourself within the industry, and take part in projects such as touring to local schools and writing, directing and producing your own work.

Students will be guided into pathways of study which college staff feel the individual will excel at and best prepares them for their chosen career in the very competitive world of Performing Arts.

In class, face to face.

Practical projects, supported by written work throughout the course. Students will study 12 units across the 2 years which they will have to Pass in order to proceed. Their final unit will then determine their overall grade of Pass, Merit of Distinction. The qualification is 100% internally assessed and externally moderated by the exam board.

Level 3 UAL Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts

You will work on one large scale producion every term, staged at a professional venue. Work experience opportunites at The Old Court Artspace and Windsor Fringe Festival. One pantomine tour aounnd local primary schools. Trips to the theatre and access to guest speakers from the industry.

Students who have completed the Performing Arts course at Level 3 have been highly successful in securing places at some of the UK’s top drama schools such as Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, LAMDA and East 15 and universities such as Exeter, St Mary’s and Bournemouth. Students also have the option of continuing their studies at Windsor College for a further year to achieve a UAL Level 4 Professional Diploma in Performance.

Level 3

During each year there are opportunities to see live performance work given by other students and also professional work in local and London venues. Costs of these activities vary from year to year.
