Course Overview

The motor vehicle aspects of this course will be taught in the college’s workshops and technical classrooms. Learners will develop essential skills and knowledge required by today’s motor vehicle industry.

The units covered are as follows:

• Health and Safety, ready for industry expectations.
• Working with others.
• Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices used in the Automotive Environment.
• Engine mechanical, lubrication and cooling.
• Fuel, exhaust, induction and ignition components.
• Chassis components, brakes, suspension, steering, wheels and tyres.
• Electrical components.
• Vehicle inspection and routine servicing.

Course information

Units included are:

Routine light vehicle maintenance
Removing and replacing engine units and components
Removing and replacing fuel, ignition, air and exhaust systems
Removing and replacing transmission and driveline units and components
Health and safety and good house keeping in the automotive environment
Support for job roles in the automotive environment
Materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices used inthe automotive environment

1 Year

A combination of Tutor led demonstrations, student participation & practice, theory delivery and commercial salonworkshop that will led on to formative & summative assessments.

This course is accredited by the Institute of Motor industries (IMI) and will include practical based assessments in the workshop and knowledge-based units, using E-portfolio and includes online exams for each unit.

Level 2 IMI Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles (VRQ)

Industry placement: Students will attend a 2 week block of Industry placement part of their full study programme.

This could lead to a L3 Apprenticeship
