Access to Higher Education

If you don’t have the relevant formal qualifications to start a Higher Education course straight away or are returning to study, you can get the qualifications you need in just one year on an Access to Higher Education Course.

We offer several different pathways:

Access courses are designed to update your skills and prepare you for study at a higher level in just one year. You’ll then be able to apply for an HE course at college or university.

Students this year have received university offers for a wide range of courses including:

Adult/Paediatric/Mental Health Nursing; Midwifery; Paramedic Science; Operating Department Practitioner: Occupational Therapy; Speech & Language Therapy: Social Work; Psychology, Sociology; Criminology; Primary Teaching, English, Creative Writing and Spanish.

Students will be going on to study at a wide range of both our local universities and some more elite institutions including King's College London, the University of Surrey, Loughborough University, the University of Reading, the University of Cardiff, Middlesex University and Royal Holloway University.

How can you fund your studies?

For Access to HE courses, you can apply for a Advanced Learner Loan to help you pay for course fees if you are aged 19 and over. This loan is not means tested or credit checked. Repayments only start once you have completed the course and are earning more than £25,000 per year. What is more, if you complete a Higher Education course this loan will be written off.
