CREATIVITY TAKES CENTRE STAGE IN TRUNKS ACROSS THE THAMES COMPETITION

News overview

More than 100 students from across Windsor Forest Colleges Group have come together in an inspiring celebration of art, community, and creativity as part of the Trunks Across the Thames competition.

This exciting initiative is part of Thames Hospice’s very first public art trail – a vibrant, large-scale project that brings together businesses, schools, community groups, and artists to create something truly special for the local area.

From July to September, a spectacular herd of uniquely designed elephant sculptures will be displayed throughout Slough and Windsor.

These magnificent elephants will transform streets, parks, and public spaces into a colourful open-air gallery, offering a free, family-friendly trail for the whole community to explore. Each sculpture will showcase its own creative flair, celebrating imagination and storytelling through art.

Ourcross-college competition saw an incredible response, with over 100 entries submitted by students across the group. The standard of creativity was exceptionally high, making it a difficult decision for judges. Six standout designs have been combined into a single final piece, drawn by talented local artist Jho, ensuring multiple creative voices are represented in the finished elephant that will appear on the trail.

Congratulations to the talented students whose designs were chosen:

– Scarlett and Esmae from BCA

– Milly, Noor, and Crosby from Slough & Langley College

– ALFIE student Nupur

Their ideas, creativity, and artistic vision have been brought together to form a unique and meaningful design that reflects the spirit of the project.

Following the trail, all elephant sculptures will be auctioned in October, with proceeds going directly to support the vital work of Thames Hospice.

This means the project not only brightens the community but also makes a real difference to people and families in need of hospice care.
