The Al-Falah Institute in Hayes has risen beautifully from the ashes of the devastating arson attack it suffered in September 2023. Thanks to a combination of insurance support and a powerful GoFundMe campaign backed by local and international donors, the centre has been fully rebuilt – and it looks better than ever.
The attack, which left the building severely damaged, shook the community. But it also sparked an outpouring of solidarity. A GoFundMe campaign raised tens of thousands of pounds to support areas not covered by insurance, while insurance funding helped to secure the site, restore the structure, and refurbish key areas including classrooms, prayer spaces, and digital learning suites. Incredibly, no one was injured in the fire, but the emotional toll was immense.
Now, the Al-Falah Institute stands not only restored but thriving, with bright, welcoming rooms and a renewed sense of purpose.
As part of their recovery and ongoing empowerment efforts, the centre recently held a moving awards ceremony to celebrate the achievements of many of the women who have been learning English, maths, and digital skills at the Institute. I had the pleasure of attending on behalf of Slough & Langley College, where I met many of the inspirational women who have shown extraordinary resilience and dedication to their education. The atmosphere was joyful and proud, with certificates presented to learners who had worked incredibly hard to upskill themselves and build confidence after a difficult year.
The centre continues to provide a safe, inclusive space for women from all walks of life—many of whom are new to the UK and are now building new lives through education, friendship, and faith.
The rebuilt Al-Falah Institute is not just a physical space—it’s a symbol of what can be achieved when community, compassion and courage come together.
