Outstanding Results in A Levels and BTECs

Students from Strode’s and Windsor Sixth Form Colleges will be rightly celebrating their outstanding achievement as the A Level results were revealed today. The overall pass rate at the Sixth Form was a staggering 99.92% (99.88% at Strode’s and 100% at Windsor). 

Not only has the overall pass rate improved compared to last year, the number of high grades A*-B has increased by 6% and the number of A* awarded has also increased, with 45 students achieving at least one to four A*. 

The prestigious Extended Project Qualification, which is highly valued by universities, once again saw 100% pass rates with 77% achieving A*-B which is an impressive 17% improvement on the previous year.

BTECs were also being celebrated today and the Colleges recorded a 100% pass rate for the fourth consecutive year with 60% achieving the top grades of D*D*D* (Distinction *).

Group Principal and CEO Gillian May paid tribute to the students for their determination and resilience during this challenging year. She said: “What outstanding results from our A Level and BTEC students who are shining lights of determination and dedication against a backdrop of Covid.” She continued: “We have invested heavily in the quality of our teaching and the support and resources needed by students to achieve, and these results show our approach to Sixth Form education is highly effective.”

Sixth Form Principal Amanda Down was full of praise for her team and the way in which they have kept the students’ academic achievement and welfare at the forefront this year. She said: “These results are testament to the incredible team of teachers and support staff we have at Strode’s and Windsor. We care about each student and help them to develop confidence in themselves and their abilities. The number of high grades is quite simply fantastic – we are over the moon.”

Oxbridge is calling for top students at Strode’s who have all secured their places. Kevwe Anaughe secured her place at Cambridge to study Computer Science having achieved A*A*AA. Joining Kevwe at Cambridge is Thomas Niblett who achieved A*A*A*A and will be studying Human and Political Sciences. Heading to the dreaming spires of Oxford is Milly Ayres who achieved an A*AA.

Alex Wright hit top marks with A*A*A*A* in Maths, Physics, Science and his EPQ project and is planning to go to Warwick to study Physics. He ultimately wants to combine his passion for Physics and Computing for his career. He talked about studying at Strode’s and said: “The facilities are awesome, the labs are fantastic always clean and ready for you to work in, and the library and quiet study space is also great. The teachers went the extra mile during lockdown with great communication.”

Katarzyna Mroczek has ambitions to become a Dentist and with her A*A*A A she is on her way to Queen Mary, London. One of the college’s A*spire students for the gifted and talented she praised the support she received at Strode’s and is excited about her future.

Not everyone is off to university straight away from Strode’s. Talented gymnast Fraser Griffiths achieved high grades (AAB) in Maths, Biology and PE and is taking a year out to concentrate on training for the Commonwealth Games in 2022. Fraser is part of the College’s TASS programme for elite athletes and hopes to represent Scotland in the games.

Windsor College

Nathan Goldson who came to Windsor from Burnham Grammar achieved an incredible A*A*A* in Biology, Politics and Psychology and is heading north to study medicine at Sheffield or Manchester. He said of his time at Windsor: “The teachers are so knowledgeable and easy to talk to. They are always quick to respond. The library is fantastic and the team there always ready to help. Studying at Windsor is less restrictive than school and I feel it has really prepared me for university.”

Oliwia Kwiatkowska also a former Burnham Grammar student and achieved A*A*AA English Language, Geography, Psychology and the EPQ. Oliwia is heading to Queen Mary University to study Geography. She was delighted with her results and said: “I have loved it at Windsor College – the way the courses are structured is great and you are encouraged to develop your independence but with support when you need it.”

Katie Mack who was a former Magna Carta pupil achieved A*A*AA in Physics, Maths and Further Maths and EPQ and is planning on studying Maths at the prestigious Durham University. She said: “I really enjoyed my time at the college especially the more adult environment and the location. I am really pleased with my results.”

Science student Taha Hussain is off to study medicine at Brighton with his impressive A*AB in Physics, Chemistry, Biology. He has been impressed by the quality of teaching at Windsor and praised the staff and the support he received at Windsor.

Mrs May who joined the Windsor Forest Colleges Group as CEO in April concluded by saying: “I could not have asked for more impressive results in my first results’ season at the Windsor Forest Colleges Group. I am incredibly impressed by the high standards delivered at the Sixth Form Colleges and look forward to welcoming a new cohort of talented students through our doors in September.” 


Langley College

The results at Langley are also impressive. With an overall 98% pass rate for BTEC Level 3s, this represents an improvement of 6% compared to the same time last year.

Top grades are also on the way up and the IT department scored a record-breaking 82% Distinctions and Distinction*.

Many subjects recorded 100% pass rates including Business (52% high grades), Construction (75% high grades), Sport (56% high grades), Public Services (50% high grades), Engineering and Childcare also scored top marks with 100% pass rate.

Langley College Principal, Maxine Wood, commented on the results by saying: "I am incredibly proud of our BTEC Level 3 students who have achieved such outstanding results despite the difficult year they have had. These qualifications are equivalent to A Levels so many of our students will also be heading to prestigious universities or onto higher apprenticeships or employment to pursue their careers in their chosen industries. Well done to the students and staff for their commitment and hard work."

Business student Rebecca Salisbury was among the high flyers at Langley achieving D*D*D* in her Level 3 programme. She plans to progress onto a Degree level Apprenticeship in Business Management.

For those receiving their GCSE results on 12th August, college staff will be available both online and in person to provide information and advice about joining the college this September.
