What's covered?

This vocational, work-related course is offered as an Award. You will gain a broad understanding and knowledge of the health and social care sector and develop a range of personal skills and techniques that are essential for successful performance in working life.

This is an ideal course to develop a range of skills and techniques that are essential for you to be successful at working at entry level in the health and social care sector. Learn independent research skills and team working in the care industry.

What do you need?

You must have a minimum of four GCSEs, three at grade 3 (equivalent to D at GCSE) and one at grade 2 (equivalent to E at GCSE) which must include Maths or English at grade 3, OR a Pass in a Level 2 BTEC/OCR First Certificate plus two GCSEs at grade 3 and one GCSE at grade 2 which must include Maths or English at Level 3.

How you are assessed

Eight units, of which two are externally assessed by examination and six are coursework based with a range of skills being assessed from essay writing, to poster making and verbal communication. The grades in the exam-based units are essential to the overall grade of the course and students cannot complete the course at a Level 2 (GCSE Level) unless they achieve a Level 2 grade in the exams.
