  • SLOUGH AND LANGLEY COLLEGE
  • LEVEL 2

Course Overview

This practical City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Welding is designed for learners who already possess basic welding skills and wish to further develop their practical competence and technical understanding within the welding sector.

Focusing on Manual Metal Arc (MMA), commonly known as stick welding, this qualification enables learners to build upon existing knowledge and produce high-quality welds to an industry-recognised standard.

The course is ideal for individuals currently employed in engineering or fabrication, those seeking to progress within the welding industry, or learners wishing to enhance their existing practical skills through formal training.

Throughout the programme, learners will further develop their understanding of welding procedures, material preparation, joint configurations and quality requirements, while refining their practical welding techniques.

Learners will develop skills in:

o Safe working practices within a welding environment.
o Setting up, operating and maintaining MMA (stick) welding equipment.
o Producing high-quality welds in a range of welding positions.
o Preparing materials and joint configurations to industry standards.
o Understanding welding terminology, symbols and specifications.
o Inspecting and evaluating completed welds against quality requirements.
o Identifying welding defects and implementing corrective actions.

Training takes place in fully equipped workshops and is delivered by experienced industry professionals, enabling learners to develop the practical skills and confidence required within the engineering and manufacturing sectors.

Successful completion of this qualification can support progression onto advanced welding programmes, further engineering qualifications, or employment opportunities within the welding, fabrication and manufacturing industries.

This course is ideal for individuals wishing to improve their existing welding skills, gain a recognised qualification, or progress within a welding and fabrication career.
