This course is for learners that have completed the beginners’ level and want to develop their sewing/dressmaking skills. You will need to be competent in using a sewing machine. You will be asked to purchase yourself some material, approx. 2 metres of a fabric of your choice or calico for mock up making and the tutor selected garment pattern. All other equipment you need will be provided. You are welcome to bring along your own sewing machine if you wish.
Course information
You will be working on a tutor selected beginner-intermediate friendly garment pattern that you will follow along with the tutor and class group each week, covering the entire creation process from start to finish. The course includes:
-Taking a series of measurements and knowing how to select the right size.
– Reading/following pattern instructions, adapting a pattern to match custom measurements.
– Making a mock-up/toile to practice construction, check fit and develop your garment further.
– Mini workshops on staple sewing tasks e.g. well sewn darts, inserting pockets, zips, sewing hems etc.
– Implementing professional sewing & finishing processes.
This course will take place for 2 hours a week for 6 weeks.
This course has no exam but will be assessed by outcome achieved by each learner. The teacher will want you to have learnt new skills.

The next course can be negotiated, some learners might like to enrol in intermediate again to make another item of clothing and further refine their skills or possibly progress onto our sew like a pro: advanced course. Progression to F/T BTEC Fashion and clothing possible following interview if you would like to study fashion in greater depth.
The course will help you to increase your skills in making clothes that look professional.
The next course can be negotiated, some learners might like to enrol in intermediate again to make another item of clothing and further refine their skills or possibly progress onto our sew like a pro: advanced course. Progression to F/T BTEC Fashion and clothing possible following interview if you would like to study fashion in greater depth.
