Course Overview

If you enjoy watching ‘The Great Pottery Throwdown’ on TV then why not join in the fun, and have a go making and glazing your very own pottery at the beginners pottery evening class at Windsor College? This course is designed for the complete beginner, and for those who have had a little experience, but are very out of practice!
Our friendly tutor will guide you through basic hand-building processes, the use of pattern, texture, composition and traditional pottery design. You will learn about the properties of different types of clay, and which clay best suits your ideas. The first project is fun and easy, for example to make and decorate a set of tiles or coasters.
Building on your skills, we then progress to making tableware. You can select from a range of stencils, or learn how to design your own in order to decorate hand-made plates, bowls etc.
The next project is a simple one, either using the slab build or coiling technique. We have fail-safe methods to support your making, develop your dexterity and increase your fine motor skills. There will also be the opportunity to try out using the potter’s wheel.
