Course Overview

The VRQ Level 2 Certificate in Cutting Women’s Hair is a great short course for those who want to be able to cut hair as a junior stylist. It can also be ideal for those who have been out of the salon for a little while and want to update their skills at a basic level. This course should propel you forward to our level 2 certificate in colouring services or our barbering qualifications.

It requires the following units to be completed:
-Working in the hair industry
-Follow Health & Safety in the salon
-Shampoo & Condition the hair and scalp
-Cut Women’s Hair
-The Art of Dressing Hair

All of these units have a compulsory external online test along with the practical assessments and in some cases a written assignment

Entry Requirements

Level 2 – 4 GCSEs at grades 9 – 3/A* – D (English and maths desirable) or a Level 1 qualification.

Course information

It requires the following units to be completed:
-Working in the hair industry

-Shampoo & Condition the hair and scalp
-Cut Women’s Hair
-The Art of Dressing Hair

January to June evening 2 per week.

A combination of Tutor led demonstrations, student participation & practice, theory delivery and commercial salon that will led on to formative & summative assessments.

Learners must have completed all the assessment requirements for the programme can be achieved
Assessment required for the programme may take the following forms:
Practical observation
Oral questioning
Online testing and in some cases assignment writing

Level 2 CG Certificate in Hair Techniques

Learners are enrolled onto an additional ‘College Commercial Salon’ completed within the College Salons under Tutor guidance. This provides a simulation of a real Salon environment & provides experience with clients to help build confidence within the chosen pathway.

– Working in the hairdressing industry as a junior cutting stylist.
– Working in a unisex hair salon
– Working independently/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
Regaining confidence and refreshing skills

Level 2

A Kit & Unifrom must be purchased within 6 weeks of enrolling for the course. Details of the Kit & Uniform are handed out during the enrollment process. Bursaries are available for those who are eligible – subject to individual assessment.
