All the skills, knowledge and behaviours must be met in full for you to achieve your Apprenticeship. For this apprenticeship apprentices must achieve the Diploma for Hair Professionals (barbering) which is a mandatory part of the standards for barbering Professionals.

Course information
In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with a wide and diverse range of clients, the barbershop team, other associated hairdressing and beauty professionals. They should also be able to promote themselves, their organisation, products and services using a variety of channels.
The broad purpose of the occupation is to demonstrate a range of Barbering skills tailored to client requirements, whilst providing an outstanding service. A Barbering professional at level 2 will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of barbering techniques, style and finish hair to create variety of looks, cut facial hair into shape and provide shaving services. Barbers must be able to work with all hair types, characteristics and classifications ranging from straight (type 1) hair to very curly, hair with texture (Type 4 wiry hair). They also need to be able to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills, retail skills alongside safe working practices associated with their role. They must be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills.

Skills, knowledge and behaviours are assessed by competencies being displayed in the workplace, observations, employer feedback, assessor progress reviews, evidence collating and the employer enabling the apprentice’s job role to fulfil the requirements of the Apprenticeship.
On programme assessment will include various coaching and mentoring assessment methods. These assessments are deigned to review the apprentice’s behaviour, knowledge and skills against set gateway criteria. In addition the apprentice, employer and college are required to maintain an off the job training log evidencing new skills and knowledge being learnt over the duration of the apprenticeship.
The End Point Assessment for this standard has three distinct assessment methods that have been designed to be completed only once the apprentice has finished the on-programme learner journey and passed through Gateway. The three EPA assessment methods include a Multiple-choice test, a Practical assessment with questions and a Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence.
On completion of this standard, apprentices may be able to progress onto the Advanced Apprenticeship Standard in Creative Hair Professional.
