Course Overview

This course is an exciting opportunity to cover a range of foundation level skills in the construction industry. Areas covered include:

Introduction to Health and Safety and a basic range of trades:
Carpentry and Joinery
Electrical
Painting and Decorating
Plumbing

The course will also cover Professional Development and/or GCSE in Maths and English to improve skills, ready for the next level of study or work.

Entry Requirements

Three GCSEs at Grade 2. Learners must bring a recent school report to interview showing attendance, behaviour and predicted grades.

This course offers an exciting opportunity to cover a range of Construction trade skills:
Workplace Health, Safety and Welfare
Maintaining and Using Carpentry and Joinery Hand Tools
Basic Carpentry and Joinery Skills
Install Basic Plumbing
Painting and Wallpapering Skills
Wall and Floor Tiling Skills

Two-thirds of this course consists of practical classes delivered by experienced tutors with a trade background in fully equipped workshops. Theory-based classes are delivered in college classrooms. Where necessary, classes are occasionally delivered virtually.

Practical assessments are conducted in workshops; theory assessments take place in the college’s dedicated exams room.

City & Guilld l1 diploma

Level 1 students are expected to find an employer to do industry placement with for the duration of one weeks, with the support of a dedicated college office.

Working in the Construction Industry, using skills in Carpentry & Joinery to gain further experience.
