Course Overview

This is the course for you if you have an interest in how different ideas and areas of human thought fit together; whether our deeply-held assumptions about the way the world is can be justified and if arguments, both historical and current, stand up to logical scrutiny. It suits those of you who have a keen interest in human existence and are prepared to engage intellectually with a number of fascinating and challenging concepts.

Philosophy considers the central issues of human life, focusing on problems and arguments relating to morality, knowledge and understanding, philosophy of religion and philosophy of the mind. This course is guaranteed to get you thinking about things in a completely new way.

Entry Requirements

Requires GCSEs in English and maths at grade 5, plus the standard entry requirements of an
A Level or mixed programme.

Course information

You will consider the central issues of human life, focusing on problems and arguments relating to morality, knowledge and understanding, philosophy of religion and philosophy of the mind. You will develop your critical and analytical skills exploring philosophical theory. There is a strong focus on enhancing indpendent critical learning through reading, writing and discussion.

Two written examinations, worth 50% each.
