Course Overview

Economics is the right subject for you if you enjoy debating economic issues such as inequality, immigration and how we should pay for healthcare. You will use and interpret data to analyse economic problems, discuss alternative courses of action and support them with well-reasoned cases. Keeping up to date with national and international trends is also important.

Economics is about choice and the impact of our choices on each other. It relates to every aspect of our lives, from the decisions we make as individuals or families to the structures created by governments and firms. An economic way of thinking can help you make better choices.

Entry Requirements

Requires GCSEs in English language at grade 5 and maths at grade 6, plus the standard entry requirements of an
A Level or mixed programme.

Course information

You wil be introduced to the nature of economics, how markets work and why they fail. In addition, you will explore how businesses grow and compete, the labour market, international trade, inequality within the between countries, emerging and developing economies and the public finances.

2 Years

In class, face to face with some practical activity, individual and group work.

You will sit three papers for this subject. Question papers use a variety of assessment styles, including multiple choice, short answer, data response, essay and case studies. You will be required to demonstrate good numeracy skills across all papers.

Level 3 EDEXCEL GCE A Level in Economics

During your two years of study you will undertake a work placement. You will also hear from a variety of industry speakers, visit careers’ fairs, workshops, trips and conferences.
