What's covered?

Colourful displays of scented blooms often captivate people so that we stop in our tracks and take a closer look whilst we breathe in the fragrant perfume from the flowers in a florist's shop or side-street stalls. The stimulation of senses can stir one's yearning to be creative. If you enjoy floral decorations then the flower arranging course could be for you. It aims to inspire and help you to develop traditional techniques and practical design skills involved with floral arranging.

The tutor was professionally trained at the Constance Spry Flower School and is a practising floral designer who will guide the students with step-by-step demonstrations. The programme is structured to meet the student's need to be able to create a great variety of flower arrangements including Traditional, Contemporary, European, Ikbana and Free-styles. The floral materials used are fresh, dried, artificial and seasonal.

What do you need?

No qualifications needed.

How you are assessed

The flower arranging course is predominantly based on hands-on learning. The students will have an opportunity to discuss and evaluate their classwork with the tutor and their peers at the end of each session. Materials are provided for the first class although it would be helpful if you could bring a pair of scissors. For subsequent classes you will need to bring flowers, foliage, floral foam and containers. These will be advised by the tutors each week.

How Long?

Two and a half hours per week for 8 weeks

What course next?

The students can use the skills they have learnt in home decorations or as a stepping stone for more advanced vocational training, e.g.. City & Guilds Qualifications.

What could this lead to?

A higher qualification in flower arranging.
