A college for the 21st century

The Langley College building has been at the heart of the community since 1976 and currently serves over 2,400 students from the Langley and Slough area.

As part of our commitment to continually raising standards, we are delighted to announce that work is now well underway on our exciting £30m improvement project at our Langley College. The refurbishment will provide state-of-the-art learning facilities, including a new Hospitality & Catering Academy, to meet the community's current and future learning needs.

Through consultation with students, staff and local residents, the College's project team has developed an exciting evolutionary design for Langley College. The improvements include some internal remodelling and extension to the existing main building to provide more social spaces and study areas for students, new learning centre, enhanced learning environments and improved landscaping.

Phase 1 improvements

The first phase of improvements began in summer 2012 and includes a new multi-purpose Sports Centre and a Hospitality & Catering Academy. Work on our new Sports Centre is now complete. Officially opened in May 2013, the new centre features a sports hall, gym, dance studio and changing rooms. As well as meeting the needs of our successful Sports Academy, the new facility will also provide the local community with public use of new sports amenities from September 2013. Our new Sports Centre is being managed by Absolutely Fitness in partnership with the College. For details on how you can join the new gym, visit www.absolutely-fitness.co.uk

As part of the plans, we have also developed an exciting new Hospitality & Catering Academy to meet the training needs of local employers in this thriving industry. Officially opened in October 2013 by Michelin star chef Tom Kerridge, the new facility accommodates professional training kitchens and a working restaurant called Zest. This new academy has enabled the College to deliver, for the first time, full-time and part-time courses, including apprenticeships, in hospitality and catering.

Phase 2 improvements

We are currently updating the teaching facilities inside the south-wing of the existing Langley College building. These internal improvements include new commercial hair and beauty salons, enhanced facilities for learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, a simulated hospital environment for Health & Social Care and a brand new Innovation Lab. Our two existing lecture theatres will also be transformed into a single spacious lecture theatre.

Opening in Spring 2014, the new commercial hair salons will incorporate professional cutting stations, the latest industry-standard equipment and a new public reception area. The salons will be open to the public and act as a working business to allow students to train on real customers for an enhanced learning experience.

Phase 3 improvements

As part of this ongoing refurbishment project, we also plan to upgrade our current construction and engineering training facilities, which are located at the rear of the existing building. Like our new hair salons, these improvements will largely consist of an internal refurbishment along with a small extension within the internal courtyard of the existing building in order to accommodate a new STEM project and research space. These improved facilities will help to meet the training needs of the local construction industry by enabling students to develop the specialist higher level skills employers' require in a realistic work environment. The facilities will also help to address the skills shortage in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths identified in the UK.
