Course Overview

The Basic Computer Skills for Life and Work course is designed to help learners develop essential digital skills needed for everyday life, further learning, and the workplace. The course provides a practical introduction to using computers, navigating digital environments, and building confidence with commonly used applications and online tools.
Learners will develop the skills required to use a computer effectively, manage files, communicate online, stay safe while using digital technology, and complete basic workplace tasks. The course is suitable for beginners and those looking to improve their confidence and independence when using technology.

This course is taught at the Slough & Langley College campus in Langley, Berkshire, with access to industry-standard facilities and industry-experienced tutors.

Course information

Course Content Includes:
– Introduction to computers and basic computer terminology
– Using a keyboard, mouse, and touchscreen devices
– Navigating the desktop and operating systems
– Creating, saving, and managing files and folders
– Using basic software applications for work and personal tasks
– Introduction to word processing and document creation
– Using the internet safely and effectively
– Setting up and using email for communication
– Understanding online safety, privacy, and security
– Developing confidence with digital tools for everyday activities and employment

once per week for 5-weeks

The course will be delivered face-to-face in a computer room at the college.

An end-of-course assessment will be conducted to determine your progression route.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a college certificate.

Based on the assessment outcome, you will progress to EDSQ Entry Level 3 course.
