What's covered?

All Apprenticeships consist of a Framework of different elements. They must include qualifications that, when achieved, prove the Apprentice's competence in carrying out work of the Level and type identified in the Framework. Also included must be qualifications which demonstrate the technical knowledge of the job and industry, plus more wide ranging general skills required to operate successfully in the trade; these will include Maths, English and, if appropriate, ICT and Employer Rights and Responsibilities.

The different elements can be combined in one qualification, or be covered in separate qualifications, but all elements must be achieved to obtain a full Apprentice Certificate. The Diploma for Hair Professionals (Hairdressing) programme is a mandatory part of the Apprenticeship standards for Hair Professionals and requires the following 6 units to be completed plus Apprentices must pass the final end-point assessment: Mandatory Units Hairdressing option include Unit 201 Consultation Unit 202 Shampoo, condition and treat hair and scalp Unit 203 Cut hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks Unit 204 Style and finish hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks Unit 205 Colour and lighten hair using a range of techniques Unit 206 Perming hair

Functional skills

Maths and English functional skills at level 1to be passed, but learners must also take the level 2 functional skills tests (even if they don't pass them). Learners who have achieved Maths and English GCSE at grade A--C are exempted from functional skills

  • Be well presented in all aspects including: clothing, hair and personal hygiene
  • Be practical and well organised.
  • Be a good communicator
  • Have good dexterity
  • Be willing to work flexible hours/days as agreed in the Apprenticeship employment c

How you are assessed

Gate way Learners must have completed all he on programme assessment requirements for the NVQ and achieved a level of English and maths before being put forward for the end assessment. Practical observation Oral questioning End assessment- The end assessment must demonstrate that the apprentice can perform in the occupation in a fully competent, holistic and productive way.

How Long?

Typically, two years for the hair professional standards, but the minimum duration is one year (372 days).
