Course Overview

Our part-time English courses are a great opportunity to improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in a friendly and supportive environment. All our courses are Government-funded up to Functional Skills Level 2 or GCSE Grade 4.

We offer English courses at the following levels:
• GCSE
• Functional Skills Level 2
• Functional Skills Level 1

Courses are available mornings, afternoons and evenings.

GCSE English is 3 hours per week. You will study two papers: a fiction extract and creative writing on Paper 1; and two non-fiction extracts and a piece of persuasive writing on Paper 2. You will also complete a spoken language presentation.

Functional Skills English courses are for 2.5 hours per week and will cover reading skills, writing skills, spelling and punctuation. Teaching will be delivered in the context of skills needed for everyday life and the workplace such as letter writing and form filling.

Course information

Our courses run for up to 35 weeks over the college year.

You will work towards achieving a formal qualification. Your teacher will discuss how you be assessed.

Learners are encouraged to build their skills and knowledge so that they can get a job, promotion or access higher level courses.
