Course Overview

This Level 2 Motor Vehicle programme aims to establish the skills and knowledge expected of a person starting in the industry as a mechanic.

The course covers the safe servicing, inspection and repair of light vehicle mechanical and electrical systems.

It also includes training in the maintenance and repair of low voltage and mechanical systems on hybrid and electric vehicles.

Course information

ABC Qualification: The study programme is timetabled for three days a week. The units include: Removing and replacing engine units and components. Removing and replacing electrical auxiliary units and components. Removing and replacing electrical auxiliary units and components. Removing and replacing brake, suspension and steering components.

GCSE Maths and English Language is part of the study programme where a 4 grade or higher has not already been achieved. A professional development programme takes over where Maths and/or English Language has been passed. This programme includes an Industry Placement.

This will involve a mixture of: Blocks lasting a week (5 days) at the employer, One day a week at the employer (in addition to 3 days at college)

1 Year

The course is delivered through practical and knowledge based teaching. You will attend college 3 days each week.

The course comprises workshop-based activities supported by classroom study and assessment will depend on the study stream the student is matched to, and gaining unit merits along the programme to achieve the various learning aims. This course is Portfolio based.

ABC Qualification: Skills and Education Group ABC Level 2 Diploma in Motor Vehicle Studies. Students will gain the skills and knowledge for a role in a motor vehicle workshop or apprenticship.

2 Week Industry Placement in a Motor Vehicle Workshop.

ABC Qualification Progression: This course prepares students to start working in the industry. By the end of this course, you should be able to inspect, service and carry out remove and refit repairs on modern petrol and diesel-powered cars and light vans and on low voltage and mechanical systems on hybrid and electric vehicles.

Level 2

You will require PPE for practical lessons, they are: Steel toe capped safety boots. Overalls. Safety glasses. For the knowledge sessions you will need the course workbook – more information about this at enrolment.

You will also require pen, paper and file for your practical and theory lessons. Lockers and workbooks are mandatory for all students and can be purchased via the College.
