The Windsor Forest AI Story
Like many others across the sector, Windsor Forest Colleges Group hit a crunch point where it became clear that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) was inevitable.
Roddy Peters, Group Head of Digital Skills, started to look at how AI could best be used to support staff across all four college sites. What they came up with was Winnie, a chatbot named for Windsor Forest.
Enhancing Admissions for ESOL learners using GPT4o
Alongside Private AI, Windsor Forest emphasise both technological innovation and organisational strategy; staff are encouraged to explore AI tools, such as ChatGPT and Gemini. Key achievements include the use of AI in admissions to support with translation and improve accessibility, as well as AI-driven English language practice for ESOL learners.
Through collaboration with teachers and students, we ensure that our use of AI remains inclusive, providing equal opportunities for students and staff alike. Ultimately, AI promotes belonging and creates a more equitable, supportive learning environment.
Digital Safety
Safeguarding and student welfare are our highest priority. All Windsor Forest students discuss ‘AI Ethics’ as part of key tutorials.
When using AI we ask that all students –
Stay respectful – treat people online like in person, and report cyberbullying
Stay original – make work your own – AI can give you ideas, not whole essays
Stay wary – AI deepfakes can make content seem real – we have a zero-tolerance policy against faking images
