NCFE CACHE Level 3 Extended Diploma for Working in The Early Years Sector

This qualification is designed to prepare learners with the knowledge, skills and understanding to enter work in an early year setting and be included in staff to child ratios.

The aim of this qualification is to prepare learners to become early years educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to five years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years. Upon achievement of this qualification, it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as early years educators and be included in staff to child ratios.

Four GCSE Grade 4 and above, including English and maths.

Course information

Introduction to the role of the early year’s educator, Holistic child development, Children with special educational needs and disabilities, Effective communication in an early year’s setting, Safeguarding and welfare requirements, Health, wellbeing and safety, promoting an effective early year’s curriculum, assessment of children’s learning and development, understanding play for learning and holistic development and partnership working. Reflection and supervision in an early year’s setting, Learner-led enquiry in an early year’s setting, Sustainable practice in an early years setting, Neuroscience for early years practice, Understand the role of the early year’s educator as an advocate for children with special educational needs and disabilities and Enabling play environments in an early years setting

2 Years

This is a full-time study programme with one day industry placement in a nursery setting. Throughout the academic year block week industry placement will be required to support the minimum 350 placement hours for the course

There are 16 mandatory units in this qualification, and it will be internally assessed using a range of methods, which will include practical observation, professional discussion, written assignments, or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet. Internal assessment with achieved, pass, merit and distinction.

Developing skills in child development, safety, communication, activity planning, you will gain practical skills in managing children’s well-being, emotional growth, and learning through play.

Upon achievement of this qualification, it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators. Learners can progress into various job roles in the statutory, voluntary, or private sectors such as practitioners in day nurseries, practitioners in nursery schools, practitioner in reception classes in primary schools, pre-school worker and home-based child carer.
