Course Overview

This qualification is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to work in the Social Care sector. These qualifications will also enable progression to further studies.
This qualification aims to: focus on the study of the social care sector, offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge, skills and behaviours, provide opportunities to acquire several practical and technical skills.
The objectives of this qualification are to: Provide learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to develop competence as a lead social care worker in a range of social care support settings, develop the knowledge and skills needed when working in social care settings.

This is an interesting and demanding course with a strong theoretical base, supported with industry placement, that will help you prepare by equipping you with the communication skills, organisational ability and understanding of the core values of the care sector.

Entry Requirements

You will need four GCSE at grade 4 or above including English, maths and science.

Course information

The qualification covers a wide range of areas which includes units covering: – working in social care – the care and support planning process – values and behaviours – mental health and wellbeing – learning disabilities – dementia awareness – health and safety – prevention and control of infection – personal and professional development.

2 Years

This is a full-time study programme, and you will be required to be in college during the week and to attend industry placement to support learning.
A minimum of 30 hours of industry placement is required with opportunities within a
residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres, some clinical healthcare settings, community settings, children’s home, supported housing, day centre, homeless shelter or supported living.

To be awarded this qualification, learners are required to successfully pass all 23 units from the graded mandatory units using a structure of pass, merit, or distinction.

Progression – Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to employment (including but not limited to): care worker, personal assistant, community support and outreach worker and activities coordinator.
Further education: degree in social care, degree in health care, degree in nursing or degree in social work
