2020/21 Exam Update

We are regretfully not accepting any external candidates for the remainder of the 2020/21 academic year. JCQ has published a list of centres here in England who will accept GCSE and AS/A Level private candidate entries this summer.

General Information for 2021/22 Applicants

We welcome external exam candidates. From home-schooled students taking their first GCSEs to those who need to sit exams for university applications or to help them in their careers.

  • We offer GCSEs and A Levels in most subjects and also consider applications for vocational and functional skills exams.
  • We do not offer IGCSEs.
  • We do not offer access arrangements to external exam candidates.
  • We do not offer NEA, oral or practical exams, if you are applying for a subject with a NEA, oral or practical exam, you must complete this element elsewhere or previously and provide your UCI number on your application in order for us to carry forward your mark. This includes GCSE English
  • We do not offer CAGs and rankings to external exam candidates

Venue Information

All of our external exam candidates are invited to Strode’s College to sit their exams.

You will be asked to report to reception as soon as you arrive at the college. You will be issued with a visitor's pass and lanyard and are required to wear this at all times when on-site. Please return the pass and sign out when leaving.

Please notice that car parking is not available for private exam candidates in the college and if possible we would ask that you use public transport or arrange for someone to drop you off and pick you up.

Exam Timetables

You will receive a personalised timetable once your entry has been confirmed.

Morning exams begin at 9:15 am and afternoon exams at 1:30pm. You must be ready outside the examination room 30 minutes before these times, i.e. at 8:45 am and 1:00 pm.

Fees

The following fees apply for an external exam in the academic year 2021/22 (fees are non-refundable):

£140 administration fee per subject + the awarding body entry fee per subject.

2021/22 fees are TBC by awarding bodies but you will find the most recent fees linked below. We will update the links below as soon as the 2021/22 fees are announced.

How to apply

You must submit an application form per subject, please note the below:

You must choose and provide the correct exam subject entry code and awarding body for the subject you wish to sit.

If you have taken exams at another centre it is vital that you include your UCI number on your application form. If you are unsure about your UCI number, please contact your previous centre. This is particularly important for subjects with oral or practical exams including GCSE English.

If you do not provide a UCI on your application form we will generate one but this will not carry forward your previous exam results.
