February Open Days

Join us this week as both Strode’s and Windsor throw open the doors to their recently Ofsted rated “GOOD” colleges. Come and explore the colleges which both impressed the Ofsted inspectors with their quality of teaching, learning environments and achievement of students.

Head over to Strode’s on Tuesday 11 February explore the largest offer of A Levels in north west Surrey, which come alongside a wide range of Level 2 and 3 BTECs. And over in Windsor there will be opportunity to find out about the exciting new additions to the curriculum on Thursday 13 February.

Group Principal and CEO Kate Webb said: “We are proudly opening our doors to prospective learners so they can come and see for themselves how our courses, our expert teaching team and students all drew such high praise from Ofsted. We are particularly pleased with this rating as the new Ofsted framework puts the learner experience at the heart of its inspection process. What is really important about this result is that the inspectors reached their judgements by speaking directly with learners and therefore what is contained in the report is a true reflection of both Strode’s and Windsor Colleges.”

The report rated the group of Colleges as ‘Good’ for overall effectiveness and ‘Good’ in all other inspection areas covering quality, behaviour, personal development, leadership, education for young people, adult learning and apprenticeships.

Ms Webb concludes: “Come and explore either Strode’s and/or Windsor if you’re looking to study either academic or vocational subjects. Both of these colleges offer a vibrant sixth form experience – where students flourish while achieving academic success. Indeed for those who choose to go to university the inspectors noted that progression is good, with students generally getting into their first choice.”

Doors open 4.30pm to 7.00pm.

Alevel 052

Windsor College students and staff are celebrating another year of superb A Level results, as final grades were revealed today (17th August 2017) after weeks of nervous anticipation.

Continuing to set high standards, the College’s full A Level pass rate was an excellent 95%, with 10 students achieving A* grades in seven different subjects. The College also celebrated 100% pass rate in 12 subjects including English subjects, biology, law, further maths, fine art, Spanish, French and photography. The College’s overall A*-C pass rate was 68%.

Windsor College was packed with nervous students waiting to open those all-important envelopes. Anxiety soon turned to smiles as they found out their marks.

One of the most outstanding students was Christopher Walden (aged 25, from Maidenhead), who achieved three A* grades in maths, further maths and physics.

“I can’t describe how happy I was when I opened my results. I never expected to come this far. I’m glad I decided to study at the College after many years out of education. My lecturers here were amazing, they believed in me and challenged me to go further. These results mean I can now go on to study maths at University College London – one of the best universities in the country!

“I didn’t enjoy school, but college was completely different. Education hasn’t changed but my attitude to it has. It is not about where you come from and start, it is about how hard you work and how much you want it. Education teaches you to be resilient and work through challenges and failures to build your character, as well as your subject knowledge. Studying at college has inspired me in so many ways, not just academically.”

The results are the climax of an incredible journey for Christopher, who left school with just a grade C in GCSE maths. He came to Windsor College three years ago to retake his GCSEs after seven years out of education. Having excelled at the college and discovered a new found love of maths, he achieved A* grades at GCSE and was inspired to continue his studies at A Level.

Josephine Ali (aged 18, from Windsor) was also elated with her results. Having achieved grade A in Business Studies, A in psychology and B in maths, Josephine has secured her place at the University for the Creative Arts in Epsom to study Fashion Marketing and Business.

Josephine said: “I was so relieved when I saw my results. All the hard work I put in was worth it. I’ve made some great friends at Windsor College and the lecturers were very supportive. I’m really excited about the future and hope to work for a luxury fashion brand when I finish university.”

Rebecca Grosvenor (19, from Iver) is off to Canterbury University to study Primary Education after achieving grade A in psychology, B in sociology and B in maths. An excited Rebecca said: “These results mean everything to me. I cried with happiness when I opened the envelope. I’ve really enjoyed my time at the College, everyone has been really supportive.”

Scott Hancock (from Maidenhead) was also celebrating achieving an A in biology, A in chemistry and A in maths: “I’m so happy with my results, and want to thank the teachers as they were brilliant. I’m now looking forward to studying Veterinary Science at Liverpool University.”

Having achieved their grades, many of the College leavers will now be going on to a range of top universities, including UCL, Reading, Bath, Loughborough, Exeter and Brunel as well as exciting employment opportunities.

Kate Webb, Group Principal of East Berkshire College, said: “Our students have done themselves proud. It is great to see so many young people fulfilling their potential. It is a huge credit not only to the students, but also their teachers. We wish all our students the very best of luck in their chosen university courses or career paths.”
