Refreshing experience for college students

refresh autos_350pxMotor vehicle students at East Berkshire College broadened their motoring horizons recently when Refresh Autos Ltd visited the Langley Campus, to give them a taste of different aspects of the automotive industry.

The Reading-based mobile vehicle cosmetic repair company performed a series of demonstrations to over 100 students in the College's extensive motor vehicle training centre. The workshops took place over two days and included a lesson in the art of alloy wheel repair.

Clive Hodge, Head of School for Engineering & ICT, explains: "At East Berkshire College, we are always looking for innovative ways to teach and inspire our students. As part of our enrichment projects, we invited Refresh in to perform a series of demonstrations in order to broaden our students' experience of the automotive industry."

"It is great to have a local business give up their time in this way to help provide our students with an insight into another area of the trade besides that of automotive technicians. The feedback from our students has been extremely positive and the visit has definitely got them thinking about the different career paths open to them."

Arsen Hyseni (16), who is in the first year of the Motor Vehicle Foundation course, found the demonstrations particularly beneficial. "It was really good to expand my knowledge and learn about the techniques involved in wheel repairs. I have been into cars all my life and knew this was what I wanted to do, but I didn't realise there were so many opportunities out there."

Andy Rose, Managing Director of Refresh Autos, said: "It is great that the College thinks outside the box and has decided to include an aspect of SMART repair to the course. I think businesses can play an important role in education. It has been a great opportunity for us to showcase the different areas of our business and help train the next generation."

The College has extensive motor vehicle and engineering facilities, which feature the latest industry-standard equipment and materials.
