Construction Operations Apprenticeship Level 2

This apprenticeship consists of one or two days a week at college studying a variety of units such as; Health, Safety and welfare in construction, Principles of building construction, information and communication, Construction site barriers, Laying domestic drainage, Constructing foundations, slabs and paths in concrete. This college day incorporates both practical and theory lessons enabling the students to learn the skills and knowledge needed to pass the certificate.
The rest of the week learners are working in the appropriate environment to ensure they cover at least one of the following pathways to achieve the NVQ: Non-structural concreting, structural concreting, modular paving, laying kerbs and channels, general building operations, drainage construction, general construction and excavation and reinstatement.

This covers a range of units which include cold water and hot water systems, heating installation and maintenance of systems. The course also covers all the health and safety aspects related to industry.

Construction BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3

This a full time course designed for those wishing to build on their existing Construction knowledge, either to enter the industry at a higher level or to progress to a Higher Education programme. There are eighteen units to cover: these include Health, Safety and Welfare; Sustainable Construction; Construction Technology and Design; Science and Materials; Surveying Processes; Project Management; Mathematics; Measuring, Tendering and Estimating; Building Technology; Environmental Science; and Building Surveying.

Construction First Diploma

This Diploma is equivalent to a Level 2 qualification and provides opportunities for learners to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific qualification to enter employment in the Construction sector or to Higher Education. The course will have both theory and practical units, however it is designed for learners wanting to progress on to level 3 and above so is very theory based.

Bricklaying Certificate - Beginners

A great hands on evening course which will 'lay the foundations' of your skill. You should be able to tackle those easier DIY jobs in the home or garden and if you want, go on to more advanced stages ready to tackle that extension!

The course objectives are: awareness of basic health & safety; accurate laying of bricks to a line; safe brick cutting techniques; awareness of brick bonding and the reasons for it; techniques of jointing; and accurate use of the spirit level. Delivery takes place in our workshop at the Langley Centre and involves building walls using lime mortar. Successful completion of this course results in the issuing of a college certificate.

DIY construction Skills Award

You will learn the basics of Plumbing, Carpentry, Plastering, Painting, Decorating and Tiling. It will not qualify you to go into the workplace and carry out these tasks however it will give you the confidence to attempt them in your own home. The course is also designed for undecided learners who would like to try out the different trades in order to specialise in future years.
