College life on show in Windsor

windsor open_eveVisitors to East Berkshire College's Windsor Campus were treated to a fascinating display of forensic science techniques in its new state-of-the-art laboratories and an exhibition of work by its retail and merchandising display students at an Open Evening on Wednesday (23rd November).

From media studies to business, there was a wide variety of demonstrations running throughout the evening. Highlights included forensic science students examining a crime scene – complete with a severed finger (fake of course!) and suspicious fingerprints. Meanwhile, travel and tourism students took on the role of airline cabin crew to demonstrate inflight procedures and equipment.

Over 230 visitors attended the event, enjoying guided tours of the campus and watching classes in action. Current students and staff were also available to answer any questions on the College's extensive range of over 600 courses and impressive facilities in St Leonards Road.

Darcy Rutland and her daughter Kirsty (15), who applied for two courses on the night, were among the record number of visitors to take a look around the Windsor Campus.

Darcy explains: "We have been really impressed by the College's modern facilities, especially the science laboratories. Everyone has been really friendly and helpful. The students seem to have a real sense of pride in the College and enthusiasm for their courses, which is great to hear."

Prospective student Carla Kimble also attended the event to find out about the A Level courses on offer.

"A number of people had recommended the College to me, so I thought I'd come along and see for myself. It's been really useful to be able to speak to current students as well as tutors about college life, what you learn on each of the courses and the grades you need. Everyone is very welcoming."

The College celebrated 100% pass rate in 17 A Level subjects in 2011. These included photography, English literature and physics. In fact, 96% of photography students achieved A*- B grades.

The College offers a wide range of A Level (AS and A2) subjects at its Windsor Campus including Law, Media Studies, Spanish, Politics, English Literature, Biology, History and Photography. The campus also hosts specialist courses in Travel & Tourism, Science, Business, Media and Retail & Merchandising Display.
