College celebrates A Level success as students embark on exciting career paths

A level 017

East Berkshire College students and staff are celebrating another year of superb A Level results, as final grades were revealed today (14th August 2014) after weeks of nervous anticipation.

Continuing to set high standards, the College's full A Level pass rate was an excellent 96% The College also celebrated 100% pass rate in 14 subjects including English subjects, chemistry, accounting, psychology and ICT. In fact, in photography 100% of students achieved A*- B grades and 93% achieved A-C in English Language, a facilitating subject accepted by any university!

Windsor College was packed with nervous students waiting to open those all-important envelopes. Anxiety soon turned to smiles as they found out their marks.

One of the most outstanding students was Shama Ali (aged 18), who achieved an A in law and Bs in psychology and sociology.

"I wasn't able to sleep last night, but it was worth the wait. I'm delighted with my results. My grades mean I can go on to study law at Westminster. I'm really grateful to the support of my college lecturers, thanks to them I am a step closer to fulfilling my dream of becoming a barrister."

Ariadne Hudson (18, from Windsor) was elated with her results too. Having achieved As in English Language and English Literature and a B in sociology, she has now secured her place at Kings College London.

"I'm so pleased. My final grades are even better than I expected. I've really enjoyed my time at College and my results mean I can now take up my place at university to study a degree in English Language and Communications. College really is a great place to learn!"

Having achieved their grades, many of the College leavers will now be going on to a range of universities and exciting employment opportunities.

Kate Webb, Principal of East Berkshire College, said: "Our students have done themselves proud. It is great to see so many young people fulfilling their potential. It is a huge credit not only to the students, but also their teachers. We wish all our students the very best of luck in their chosen university courses or career paths.

"We have seen no decrease in the number of our A Level students applying to university. Although degree courses in a subject with a clear career path such as pharmacology, nursing and psychology are proving particularly popular. A clear indication that, now more than ever, young people are thinking seriously about their long-term career goals in the current economic climate."

Over the years, East Berkshire College has continued to go from strength to strength in terms of raising standards. With outstanding A Level results for the past three years, the College has earned itself a reputation for excellence. In February 2013, Ofsted rated the College as 'good' with outstanding features following a week-long inspection. Alongside other key strengths, the report recognised the real difference the College makes to the lives of its students in terms of their progress, success and employability.

The College offers a range of over 20 subjects at A Level including Maths, Media, Psychology, Politics, English Literature, History, Photography and all sciences. There are also combined pathways available, which allow students to combine an A Level with a vocational course such as a BTEC in Engineering or Science.
