College provides cutting-edge training with new facilities and partnership

 HB launch cutting

Designed to provide a high quality experience for students and customers, East Berkshire College’s stylish new hair and beauty salons were officially unveiled on Thursday (5th June 2014) by world renowned hairdresser Patrick Cameron.

Celebrating the completion of the brand new facilities in Langley and the College’s new partnership with award-winning hairdressing chain, the Francesco Group, the event was attended by local dignitaries, businesses and leading figures from the hair and beauty industry.

Famous for his skills in dressing long hair, Patrick Cameron treated the assembled guests and hairdressing students to an inspirational 45 minute demonstration of the very latest long hair styles on five lucky students.

As well as seeing Patrick in action, visitors had the chance to take a tour of the new training facilities and commercial salon, which includes professional cutting stations, the latest industry-standard equipment and a new public reception area. Hairdressing students also showcased their skills with a series of demonstrations, while beauty therapy students were on hand to provide manicures and facials to guests.

Patrick Cameron said: “I would like to express my thanks to East Berkshire Collage for inviting me to open their amazing new salon. It always warms my heart to see such a team of dedicated hairdressers, being proud of where they work and I wish them all every success in their new venture”

Janet Yelloly, Director of Curriculum for Creative and Service Industries at East Berkshire College, explains: “Our new salons and partnership with the Francesco Group will create a superb environment for our students to learn commercial, technical and creative skills. Open to the public, the new salons are designed to provide a first-class experience for students and customers alike.”

The new commercial hair and beauty salons are part of East Berkshire College’s £30million makeover of its Langley College in Station Road. As well as being a teaching facility for those studying hair and beauty courses, the salons are open to the public and act as a working business to allow students to train on real customers for an enhanced learning experience.

The stunning new salons and partnership with the Francesco Group will mean students receive training on the very latest industry techniques in a real state-of-the-art environment to ensure they are ready for employment on completion of their qualifications.

Craig Davies, Francesco Group Education Training Manager, said: “Our company philosophy is to supply real training for real jobs and we are proud to further expand our success with a partnership with East Berkshire College. The Academy Salon at Langley College is a true working environment with structure, opening hours, revenue, customer service, client retention and financial targets meaning that students learn the real essence of hairdressing at its very best.”

Rachel Shaw (17, from Slough) and Shannon Williams (19, from Hillingdon) were two of the hairdressing students who took part in the event.

“We were all in awe of Patrick”, explains Rachel. “I was amazed at how quickly he was able to create five different styles. Seeing him work has inspired us all to aim even higher and be more creative, and the new salons at the College will provide us with the perfect place to develop our skills.”

Shannon added: “The event was a great opportunity for the public to visit the new salons and see what we do. There is so much more to studying hairdressing than just cutting, I’ve already learnt about colouring, hair-up styles and the science of hairdressing.”

Mirroring high quality High Street salons, the commercial salon at Langley College offers a range of treatments to the public including hairdressing, massage, make-up, manicures and pedicures, but at extremely competitive prices. Treatments are priced from £2.00 and are carried out by students under the supervision of qualified staff.
