What's covered?

The course is suitable for people who would like to teach or train adults, or for those who are currently teaching, or working within the training sector and wish to gain a recognised qualification.

This course is a direct replacement for the PTLLS, and explores various teaching and training techniques required in adult learning. You will obtain the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare, plan, deliver and evaluate teaching and learning sessions in a variety of contexts. Units include:

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
  • Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training Understanding assessment in education and training.

What do you need?

You will need proven literacy skills and fluent command of English to do this course. You should have expertise in a subject area that you would like to deliver. An interview may be required.

How you are assessed

The course will consist of lectures, practical activities, and reflections, as well as a 20 minute micro-teaching session delivered by students. There will be classroom discussions and students will have assignments to do to form their portfolio of evidence. The lessons are enjoyable and form the basis of the teaching and learning of the course. This is a fast-paced academic course. You will need to complete theoretical assignments and a practical assignment, both of which can be work-related if you are already working in the sector. This involves around an extra 2-3 hours each week. Reflection on your learning and your teaching / training will take place throughout the course.

What course next?

You may wish to progress to the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (previously known as CTLLS). Some of the credits achieved on this course can be transferred to the level 4 certificate qualification
