What's covered?

These courses are run over 2 semesters. Semester 1 (September to February) is a speaking and listening, and reading course. Semester 2 (February to June) is a writing course. You will learn to take part in simple conversations, ask and answer questions, give information and ask for information, and to follow conversations and instructions. You will also learn to read a variety of simple texts and forms for specific information and for meaning. Finally, you will learn to write formal and informal texts using simple and sentences, and will learn to use correct punctuation, spelling, and basic and some more complex grammar.

What do you need?

You are required to attend an assessment session in which you will complete a reading, grammar and writing test, and you will have an informal conversation with a teacher.

How you are assessed

You will take Trinity ESOL Entry 1 speaking & listening, and reading exams in February. You will take Trinity ESOL Entry 1 writing exams in June.

How Long?

The courses run for 2.5 hours twice a week (5 hours in total). You are also required to do regular homework. The classes start in September and continue to the end of June, although student can enrol on these course throughout the year

What course next?

Successful completion of Entry 1 ESOL means you can progress to Entry 2.

The course helps to develop your confidence and ability in speaking, reading and writing, which can help with job opportunities.
