What's covered?

This course covers all aspects of basic hairdressing. Whatever the economic climate, the hair, beauty and complementary beauty industry continues to expand steadily worldwide. Opportunities to pursue a challenging and worthwhile career in a variety of situations await anyone with the necessary artistic flair, caring personality, enthusiasm and capability for hard work.

There are nine mandatory units: -Health & Safety -Client consultation for hair services -Promote products and services to client in a salon -Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp -Cut woman's hair -Colour and lighten hair -Cut men's hair -Plaiting & twisting -The art of dressing hair -Salon reception duties -Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector

Work experience in a salon of your choice and functional skills will be included in your programme.

What do you need?

-Applicants must be 16 or over and there is no upper age limit. -Evidence of good education supported by school/college reports or successful completion of NVQ 1 Hair with a positive reference.

  • 4 GCSE grade D including English Language and Maths. A

How you are assessed

Practical assessment takes place in the commercial salons and theory is assessed using online exams.

How Long?

One year Full time (including a work experience hours carried in the college commercial salon and possible evening session)

What course next?

You can progress to NVQ level 3 or level 2 Beauty Therapy

What could this lead to?

Level 3 Hairdressing, apprenticeship or a career in hairdressing. Level 2 Hairdressing could lead to employment in a variety of customer service related industries
