What's covered?

All Apprenticeships consist of a Framework of different elements. They must include qualifications that, when achieved, prove the Apprentice's competence in carrying out work of the Level and type identified in the Framework. Also included must be qualifications which demonstrate the technical knowledge of the job and industry, plus more wide ranging general skills required to operate successfully in the trade; these will include Maths, English and, if appropriate, ICT and Employer Rights and Responsibilities.

The different elements can be combined in one qualification, or be covered in separate qualifications, but all elements must be achieved to obtain a full Apprentice Certificate. This qualification is ideal if you are working in production engineering and have a great deal of technical skills and knowledge. You work with minimum supervision and have a good record of safety, fault correction and ensuring that work meets the required standard.

The framework consists of the following elements

    • L3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Mech Man Engineering
  • -BTEC L3 90 Credit Diploma in Engineering
  • -FS English L2, FS Maths L2, FS ICT L2 -Employment rights and responsibilities (ERR) and personal learning and thinking skills (PLTS).

What do you need?

GCSE Maths or grade 4 or above & English at grade 3 or above. GCSE Science at agreed 3 or above is preferred but not essential. Alternatively a L2 Diploma in Engineering with minimum grade 4 in Maths. You will need to demonstrate an enthusiasm for engineering at your interview.

How you are assessed

Assessment is in the workplace and in the college. This will be through on site assessments and a portfolio of evidence. Practical assessments and an on-line exam will be carried out in college.
