This qualification enables learners to develop a repertoire of interpersonal and counselling skills, as well as promoting personal growth, and providing essential industry knowledge to help you make informed career decisions. Learners will complete this qualification with a comprehensive and full understanding of how to identify, practise and develop a range of counselling skills, and further develop their understanding of the main theoretical approaches to counselling. Learners will also gain a deeper understanding of self.

Interview or course specific application required? Yes (if you have not completed the level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills at Strode’s College).
A good standard of spoken and written English (GCSE/level 2 English) You will need to provide evidence of this.
Applicants must have the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills or Counselling Concepts. An interview may also be required. It is highly recommended that any psychological issues are managed before embarking on such a course. It must also be noted that the course is not the venue to resolve these issues.
Course information
There will be group sessions held each week for 36 weeks, split over 3 College terms. The sessions will include a range of activities including: presentation and discussion of theory; self-awareness & development; acquisition and practice of listening and counselling skills.
A weekly journal will need to be written and submitted to your tutor to record progress on the course. There will also be two written assignments and a case study. The assignments and work generated in the group sessions will make up the portfolio of evidence on which you be assessed. There will be an observation of your counselling skills by the tutor towards the end of the course which will assess your suitability to progress to level 4.
