Course Overview

Psychology is the study of human behaviour and mental processes from a scientific viewpoint. The course features elements of social, cognitive, psychopathology, biological, evolutionary and developmental psychology. You learn through a variety of interactive methods including experiments, debates, role plays and presentations.

Entry Requirements

Requires four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths at grade 4 and science at grade 5 and may include a BTEC at a merit or above.

Course information

Unit 1 – Learners will explore four key approaches in psychology – social, cognitive, learning and biological – and apply these approaches to issues relevant to contemporary society.

Unit 2 – Learners develop knowledge, understanding and skills in the scientific process and in psychological research methodology through their own psychological research project.

Unit 3 – Learners explore psychological approaches, theories and studies related to lifestyle choices, unhealthy behaviours and behavioural change, linking them to their specific contexts. Option of one further unit covering either Crime and Forensics, Sport, Child development or Psychopathology
