Course Overview

This Foundation course in Education is the beginning of your career in working with children in a range of settings. The programme will give you the skills and knowledge for a range of careers including, teaching, social work, education policy, welfare and working with children and families.

It is aimed at providing you with an alternative route to undergraduate study if you do not have the grades to access higher education in the traditional way, attending Windsor College for one day a week.

On successful completion of the Education Foundation Year pathway, you will receive an automatic interview with St Mary’s University, Twickenham, to progress onto two possible pathways, one of these is the BA (Hons) Education Studies and the other is the BA (Hons) in Primary education with OTS which are undergraduate degrees.

1 year, attending college one day per week

Your assignments and lessons are all designed to benefit your professional development. You willl build upon your experience through modules in areas such as ‘How Children Learn’ and ‘Introduction to Working together in Children’s and Education Services’. Teaching includes lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials.

Academic and pastoral support is available to help you get the most from your course and you will be given an academic tutor who will have regular one-to-one meetings with you. Additionally, you will benefit from small learning groups and access to facilities and support at Windsor College and St Mary’s University Twickenham.

Through reflective accounts, essays, reports, and presentations

The Foundation year on its own does not come with a qualification, but it enables you to progress onto a full degree course. The full degree course, upon successful completion, and depending upon which course you progressed onto, will provide you with one of the following undergraduate degree awards: BA Education Studies with Foundation Year, or, BA Primary Education with QTS with Foundation year.

This course aims to develop your reflective, academic and analytical skills and increase your self-confidence. It will equip you with a range of transferable skills that are highly valued by employers
